Initially I had to wonder, Why an entire book as an index? Even the word "Cyclopedic" held virtually no meaning for me...until I saw this little wonder in action. It's so amazing, it's actually fun to use.Example: Look up "ANGER." My study Bible has 25 reference entries. Good, right? Cyclopedic Index has 3 divisions ([Anger] of God, of Jesus, of Humans), 10 subdivisions: Caused by humankind's; Described as; Visitation upon; Deliverance from; Justifiable, Unjustifiable, Seen in; Christian attitude toward; Effects of; Pacified by. And within these combined sections there are total of well over 60 sub-subdivisions (I got tired of counting at 65)."DAVID" - Broken down by: Early Life of, Fugitive hero, King over Judah, King over Israel, etc. Then it's easy to find: Commits adultery, Repents, Last words of, Organizes worship, and so on and so on.Even the word "Almond" has five reference entries; my study Bible, none (and that's ok. I'm just sayin...).It also gives thorough explanations, word roots and histories, and examples. I love that it gives definitions for virtually every word entry:: "Hostage" a person held as security; "Humaneness" a kind spirit; "Reprobate" one whose character is utterly bad. And you can readily see meanings of names used in the Bible.Can't begin to imagine the staggering amount of work that had to have gone into compiling this pure-gold resource, and I' sure thankful for it. I can't praise this book enough. My only complaint would be that it took too long for me to find out about it.
The information in the book is great, but accessing it is another story. There is no spine column, and the book doesn't lay flat. Unless you crack the spine the book will not stay open to any page. This renders the book extremely hard to use while studying.
THIS IS CONTAINED IN THE FRONT OF MY HUSBANDS BIBLE AND I WANTED ONE OF MY OWN. I WAS REALLY HAPPY WITH THE BOOK I RECEIVED. IT IS AMAZINGLY THICK AND VERY CLEAR AND IS WELL, WELL WORTH THE PRICE I PAID. I WOULD EVEN BUY MORE TO GIVE AS GIFTS.
Ordered this because my original Open Bible is falling apart, but I use this cyclopedic index a lot, and wanted to have one to carry with my new Bible. Just wish it wasn't so thick.
Excellent! Perfect for studying and for young Christians as well as those well versed. Find anything! I recommend everyone get one for your teens. Help them use their Bibles.
I had come across an older copy of "The Open Bible" and LOVED the Cyclopedic index it had and as a new Christian I didn't even realized it was something fairly unique. Couldn't imagine life without this super handy book!
The cyclopedic index is a very helpful book. The best part is that it saves you time finding all the topics related to a certain subject. Jesus taught in a subject based way mostly and I believe we should follow. The topic way of studying leads you to understand God's Will vs what we think is a better understanding of scripture through our carnal mind. I hope that anyone that wish to do deep study of the bible purchase one.You will learn more than ever before!
